چکیده

We have obtained infrared photometry for the soft x-ray transient GU Mus. We present J and Ks band light curves modeled with WD98, the newest version of the Wilson-Devinney light curve modeling code. Using detailed models for the expected ellipsoidal variations due to the non-spherical secondary star, we show that the most likely value for the orbital inclination is 54±1.5. This inclination angle is consistent with those previously published, but has a much smaller error. This inclination implies a primary black hole mass of 6.95±0.6 M⊙. While we do not see any evidence for contamination of our infrared light curves from other sources in the system, a conservative model with a contamination level of 15% increases the uncertainty in the inclination angle to 54 −1.5. Advection-dominated Accretion Model of X-ray Nova Muscae in Outburst

We present a model for the high-low state transition of the X-Ray Nova GS 112468 (Nova Muscae 1991) observed by Ginga. The model consists of an advectiondominated accretion flow (ADAF) near the central black hole surrounded by a thin accretion disk. During the rise phase of the outburst, as the mass accretion rate increases, the transition radius between the thin disk and the ADAF moves closer ...

Fast Photometry of Quiescent Soft X-ray Transients with the Gemini-South Acquisition Camera

We present a compilation of high time-resolution photometric observations of quiescent soft X-ray transients obtained with the acquisition camera of Gemini-South. A0620– 00 was observed with a short cycle time and high precision. Superimposed on the ellipsoidal modulation we find several prominent flares together with weaker continual variability. The flares seen sample shorter timescale than t...

Evidence For Advective Flow From Multi-Wavelength Observations Of Nova Muscae

We model the UV/optical spectrum of the black hole binary Nova Muscae as a sum of black body emissions from the outer region of an accretion disk. We show for self-consistency that scattering effects in this region are not important. The black hole mass (M ≈ 6M⊙), the inclination angle (μ ≈ 0.5) and the distance to the source (D ≈ 5 kpc) have been constrained by optical observations during quie...

Spectral Transitions in Cygnus X-1 and Other Black Hole X-ray Binaries Ann A. and Ramesh

We show that the model proposed by Esin, McClintock, & Narayan for the low state, intermediate state, and high state of the black hole soft X-ray transient, Nova Muscae 1991, is consistent with the spectral evolution of the black hole X-ray binary, Cyg X-1, during the hard-to-soft state transition observed in 1996. We also apply the model to the outbursts of two other black hole X-ray transient...

RXTE broad band observations of X - ray Nova XTE J 1755 - 324

The properties of X-ray Nova XTE J1755– 324, observed with RXTE observatory in 1997 are reported. The lightcurve of the source was typical for X-ray Novae, except for somewhat shorter decay time scale and the time elapsed between the primary and subsequent secondary and tertiary outbursts. At the peak of the lightcurve the source had two-component spectrum, typical for the bright X-ray Novae, w...
